Kazakhstan has launched 33 pre-trial investigations into violations identified during the construction and repair of roads. This was announced at a government meeting by First Deputy Prosecutor General Zhandos Umiraliyev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The preliminary amount of damage is about 8 billion tenge. "In addition, by canceling unjustified conditions and public procurement plans, unjustified spending of 36 billion tenge of budget funds was prevented," Umiraliyev said.

In particular, facts were identified of announcing new tenders for repeated repairs of previously repaired roads, including facilities where contractors' warranty obligations have not yet been completed.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov instructed the working group to develop a full package of proposals for reforming the road sector by the end of November.
