The women's doubles pair of Zhibek Kulambayeva (174) and Alina Charayeva (862) lost the final of the Unicredit Iasi Open-2026 to Anastasia Dețiuc (66) and Irina Khromacheva (48) – 4:6, 6:2, 10:5. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Kazakh-Armenian tandem, the main surprise of the tournament in Iasi, started the final strongly. After breaking in the first game, the debutants of a WTA 250 final later won the ninth game on the opponent's serve and took the set 6:4.
Kulambayeva and Charayeva needed just one more set to win the tournament. It was not to be. In the second set, the Czech-Russian pair made two breaks to level the match at 6:2.
The trophy was decided in a super tiebreak. Dețiuc and Khromacheva took a 6:2 lead and did not let it slip. After an hour and a half, the final ended in favor of the Czech-Russian duo – 4:6, 6:2, 10:5.
Earlier, Yulia Putintseva (82) left the Iasi tournament, losing a grueling three-hour match in 30-degree heat to Egypt's Mayar Sherif (97) – 2:6, 6:3, 6:7 (5:7). This evening, the Egyptian will face Spain's Paula Badosa (115) for the singles title.
The Unicredit Iasi Open tennis tournament appeared recently – in 2022. In 2025, the clay-court tournament in Iasi took the place of the Hungarian Grand Prix in the WTA calendar and received the '250' category.
The singles title has been won three times by local players, except in 2024 when young Russian star Mirra Andreeva triumphed. The doubles title that year was won by the duo of Anna Danilina (Kazakhstan) and Irina Khromacheva (Russia).
The prize fund of the Unicredit Iasi Open-2026 is $283,350. The top seed, Romania's Jaqueline Cristian (37), withdrew from the tournament at the last moment. Her place in the draw was taken by Putintseva.
