At the fifth session of the XXIII meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, Leonid Grigoriev, academic supervisor of the Department of World Economy, compared the global economy to the Titanic. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Grigoriev noted that in 1912, the sailors of the Titanic had no binoculars. As a result, they did not spot the iceberg in time, and the captain could not act correctly. According to the economist, the current situation also resembles the Titanic.

While stagnation is observed in some regions of the world, a "storm" is raging in others. Meanwhile, the global economy is struggling not to sink. However, no one knows what icebergs lie ahead.

"That is, it took a lot of work to sink the Titanic. If we send the global economy into the abyss, then our own situation will not be enviable. Despite crises, the global economy is developing on its own," he said.

According to him, the outbreak of wars and the disappearance of presidents all happen instantly. "The fastest thing is betrayal. But friendship and trade are very stable," the expert said.

According to the economist, the Titanic has a chance to sail in 2027. The main thing is that no one should suddenly strike it.

Will AI Send the Global Economy into the Abyss?

"Of course, fear of artificial intelligence still exists. Shares of companies linked to artificial intelligence are growing rapidly. Paradoxically, there is a risk of a financial explosion, a financial trigger — meaning the share prices of these companies could fall," he said.

Grigoriev recalled Turing's principle, which has an 80-year history. "If you communicate with someone by telegraph and for a long time do not doubt that he is not a human, then this is a human mind. Now, as we understand, this principle no longer works. Artificial intelligence will talk with us for a while, and we think it is a human mind," the economist added.

Therefore, he proposed the following step: introduce the concept of an "artificial joke." "If someone can make you laugh with a joke, it is a human joke," he said.
