In the Zhetisu region, suspects were detained for attempting to illegally export 2,600 tonnes of gold-bearing ore worth 1.5 billion tenge from the country, the Financial Monitoring Agency reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

To export the raw material abroad, the cargo was declared in customs documents as "copper ore and concentrates." Thus, its actual composition was concealed.

"During subsequent investigative and operational-search measures, more than 1,000 tonnes of raw material packed in large containers were found in warehouses in the East Kazakhstan and Almaty regions," the statement said.

During the investigation, the director of the exporting company RedGold Mining LLP and other individuals involved in organizing the illegal actions were identified. Two suspects were taken into custody. With court authorization, the company's funds were frozen.
