Where the fire occurred
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire occurred in the Alakol district, about 35 km from the village of Besagash. Dense reed thickets also hindered the work of ground teams.

"About 40 people and 12 units of equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Alakol State Nature Reserve and the forestry service are involved in extinguishing. A helicopter of Kazaviaspas JSC of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was also brought in by Kazavialesokhrana to eliminate the fire," the department's statement says.
How much water the helicopter dropped
The helicopter dropped water on the fire hotspots nine times; in total, 27 tonnes of water were required. The fire was localized. Firefighters are now extinguishing individual hotspots and pouring water over the territory. There is no threat to settlements.
