According to the Solar Activity Laboratory, Earth experienced its strongest magnetic storm in 3 months. The last storm of comparable strength was observed on July 4. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Situation on October 11
During the night and early morning of October 11, there was a strong G3 storm. During the day, the magnetosphere became calmer, and by 18:00 the fluctuations increased to weak and strong storm levels — G2.
Forecast for October 12
Tomorrow, October 12, another G2 storm is forecast.
Cause
Scientists stated that the event was caused by the arrival at Earth of plasma clouds ejected into space during a strong surge in solar activity observed earlier in the week.
Earlier, astronomers predicted that from October 10 to 12, 2026, the planet would be under the influence of prolonged geomagnetic activity caused by a series of solar flares.
