Police officers are urging citizens to beware of scams committed with the help of artificial intelligence. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Scammers can use artificial intelligence to create fake voice and appearance of a person, and during a video call introduce themselves to the victim as a relative or close person. Usually they say that money is urgently needed and ask to transfer funds immediately.
5 simple rules to protect against fraud
The police offer 5 simple rules to protect against fraud:
- 01Do not immediately trust a request for an urgent money transfer.
- 02End the call and call your loved one back yourself.
- 03Agree in advance with family members on a secret word or a control question.
- 04Never share bank card details, SMS codes, or passwords with anyone.
- 05If you have any doubts, contact the police.
Be sure to verify information before transferring money. A minute of verification can prevent financial losses.
