Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov asked the energy minister about the work done after the mass power outage. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
At today's Cabinet meeting, the issue of preparation for the heating season was considered. The Prime Minister recalled the situation on August 14, when a massive power outage occurred in Almaty and several other regions.
"What did the inspection show regarding this situation? What measures are being taken to prevent such situations in the future?", said Bektenov.
According to Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov, priority is currently given to commissioning new power facilities, taking into account the electricity shortage in the southern regions. These include CHP-2 and CHP-3 in Almaty, and a new combined-cycle plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts in the Turkistan region.
In addition, the construction of the 500-kilovolt "Shu-Zhambyl-Shymkent" power transmission line continues in the southern region. The completion date is the second quarter of 2027. About 50 percent of the work has been completed so far, said Akkenzhenov.
According to him, a special state commission will soon present additional measures to the Prime Minister.
