One of Japan's most renowned castles was damaged on Tuesday when a 7.1 magnitude earthquake shook the southern main island of Kyushu. Amateur video showed part of the stone wall of Kumamoto Castle collapsing, sending up clouds of dust. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The death toll from the earthquake has risen to 13, with rescuers continuing to search for the missing. The earthquake collapsed bridges and houses, and damaged the Yatsuhiro Shrine in Yatsushiro, causing its roof to fall. The AEON Mall in Kashima was destroyed by an explosion following the earthquake, as shown in an aerial image. The earthquake struck Kumamoto prefecture.
