Filming has started in New Zealand for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum', the first live-action film in the franchise in over a decade. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Andy Serkis, the film crew has already completed the first week of work. The actor will once again play Gollum using motion capture technology. Additionally, for the first time in the franchise's history, he will direct a feature-length film. Serkis previously served as second unit director on the 'Hobbit' trilogy.

The creators of the original film trilogy are back working on the new project: Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens. Filming is taking place in New Zealand, where the iconic early 2000s films were also shot. According to Serkis, the crew that worked on 'The Lord of the Rings' nearly 25 years ago has reunited on set, making the atmosphere feel like a big family reunion.

The premiere of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' is scheduled for late 2027. It will be the first live-action film set in Middle-earth since the conclusion of the 'Hobbit' trilogy.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that Elijah Wood does not rule out Frodo's return in the new 'Lord of the Rings' installment, and 86-year-old Ian McKellen will once again play Gandalf.
