The Department of the Penal Enforcement System for Jambyl Region has reported that an attempt to pass banned items to an inmate was thwarted at the mixed-security Facility No. 67. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Employees of the facility's operational-regime department, together with inspectors at the reception point, discovered items prohibited for storage and use in penal institutions while checking food delivered by a citizen.
"A white powdery substance with a specific odour was found inside a bottle of liquid soap, with an estimated weight of about 1-2 grams. In addition, three SIM cards were seized. It was established that the 'gift' was passed to an inmate at the facility," the statement said.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident. The seized items have been packaged and sealed, and a forensic chemical examination has been ordered.
Investigative measures are currently underway to establish all circumstances of the incident.
