Akim of Zhambyl Region Yerbol Karashukeyev inspected the condition of mudflow-prone sections of the Merke River and ordered strengthened measures to prevent floods and mudflows. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

On Saturday, July 4, the head of the region visited Merken District, where he familiarized himself with the situation on sections of the Merke River subject to mudflow danger. The current state of riverbeds and ongoing preventive work were reported to him by district akim Yerbol Zhienkulov and head of the Zhambyl branch of the State Institution "Kazseldenkorgau" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sultan Akberdiyev.

The regional akimat noted that in recent days, due to increased precipitation in mountainous areas, the risk of mudflows and floods has risen.

"Responsible services have been instructed to conduct constant monitoring of water levels in mountain rivers, round-the-clock control of dangerous sections, and promptly respond to any changes in the situation," the akimat of Zhambyl Region reported.

In addition, the head of the region ordered special attention to the condition of riverbeds and water drainage structures that may pose a threat to populated areas. According to him, it is necessary to intensify the clearing of riverbeds, increase their capacity, and remove natural obstacles to water flow.

According to the akimat, there are 18 rivers in Zhambyl Region that pose a mudflow danger. For early detection of threats, water levels are monitored three times a day at eight hydrological stations.

For prompt response to possible emergencies, two operational groups and one emergency mechanized brigade have been formed in the region.

As part of preventive measures, 14 warning signs reading "Caution! Mudflow-prone zone" were installed along mudflow-dangerous rivers. In addition, specialists conducted 56 ground surveys on the most dangerous sections of rivers.
