A woman in the Zhambyl region sold furniture via TikTok and committed fraud. The case of fraud using an information system was heard in the Zhambyl District Court. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The court found that in April 2026, the defendant, posing as a seller, posted an advertisement on the social network TikTok for the sale of furniture.
The victim became interested in a sofa worth 60,000 tenge on promotion and contacted the phone number listed in the ad. "Under the pretext of making an advance payment for the sofa, the defendant persuaded the buyer to transfer 25,000 tenge to someone else's account.
After receiving the money, the furniture was not delivered and contact with the seller was lost.
Realizing she had been deceived, the woman turned to the police," the court statement said.
The guilt was proven by testimony of the parties, witnesses, bank receipts and other case materials. The court noted that the defendant had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for fraud and, without drawing proper conclusions, committed a similar new crime while serving her sentence.
By the court's verdict, the woman was found guilty under paragraph 4) of Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code, and she was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison under the cumulative sentences. The verdict has entered into legal force.
