A school class in Kazakhstan is switched to remote learning if 30% or more of its students fall ill with ARVI. The conditions for introducing restrictions were reminded by the Zhambyl Region Sanitary and Epidemiological Control Department, Kazinform reports. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

For example, in a class of 30 students, nine cases will be the basis for switching to remote learning. The restrictions are envisaged for the period of rising ARVI and flu incidence.

If 20% to 30% of the class students fall ill, medical observation is established for seven calendar days for those who had contact with them. During this time, movement between classrooms during the school day is canceled.

After the last ARVI case is detected in the class, new students are also prohibited from being admitted for the duration of the incubation period.

The procedure is established by the decree of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Kazakhstan dated August 26, 2026, No. 11-PGSV for the 2026-2027 epidemic season.

According to the document, schools must monitor attendance daily, determine the reasons for children's absence, and conduct morning screening. Students with signs of infection are not allowed to attend classes. If symptoms appear during the school day, the child is isolated until the parents arrive.

The department noted that in autumn and winter, the incidence of flu and other ARVI increases. Those who are ill are advised to stay home to avoid spreading the infection and to consult a doctor at the first symptoms.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that, according to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of September, more than 51,900 ARVI cases have been registered in Kazakhstan — 1.8 times fewer than in the same period last year. At the time of the report, no cases of flu or previously unknown respiratory viruses had been detected.
