In Merki district of Zhambyl region, 376 tons of wild cannabis were mowed and burned on an area of 580 hectares. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The total area of land where wild cannabis grows is about 19 thousand hectares. Members of the working group, as well as 28 volunteers from 14 rural districts, were involved in the work, and the necessary special equipment was mobilized.
To date, 376 tons of wild cannabis have been mowed and burned on an area of 580 hectares.
"Work to destroy wild cannabis is carried out in the district annually on a systematic basis and is one of the important measures to prevent the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs. The ongoing comprehensive preventive measures contribute to a reduction in the level of drug-related crimes," the statement said.
For example, in 7 months of 2025, 45 drug-related crimes were registered, while in the corresponding period of this year, 28 crimes were registered, and the crime rate decreased by 37.8%.
The prosecutor's office of the Zhambyl region warns that illegal cultivation, storage, transportation, sale of narcotic drugs and other actions related to their illicit trafficking entail liability provided for by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
