Preventing actions aimed at undermining Russia's multiethnic unity is important. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Konstantin Zatulin, a member of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told RIA Novosti that the Russian people are strong due to their ability to unite and preserve cultures and peoples within their composition.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the Council on Interethnic Relations on Tuesday, said that external forces constantly seek to split Russian society and dismember Russia in order to eliminate competition in the international arena. However, according to Putin, the unity of peoples has become the most important factor in strengthening national sovereignty and preserving Russia itself.
"The Russian people, as the state-forming people, are strong because for hundreds of years they have included, united and preserved cultures and peoples within their composition. This is a special achievement that allowed us to build such a huge state," Zatulin said.
The deputy recalled that Russia collapsed twice in the 20th century: first the Russian Empire during World War I and the 1917 revolution, then the Soviet Union in 1991.
He believes it is important to prevent illusions and actions aimed at undermining the multiethnic unity and stability of the Russian Federation from within.
"Actions aimed at undermining the unity of Russians from outside are being carried out to varying degrees by people with negative intentions: both in connection with the special military operation and in connection with the difficulties the country is experiencing. For example, migration policy and others," Zatulin said.
The deputy said that Russian citizens must be wise to ensure that no one exploits internal conflicts, and that he fully agrees with the Russian president's view on this issue.
