Kazakhstani juniors finished another match day at the Wimbledon tennis tournament with a 50% result. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Zangar Nurlanuly defeated Australian Daniel Jovanovski 6:1, 6:1 in 55 minutes and advanced to the third round, where he will face German Vincent Reischach for a place in the quarterfinals.
Damir Zhalgasbay was also very close to victory but lost to Connor Doig of South Africa on a third-set tiebreak in the "advantage/disadvantage" format – 6:4, 6:7 (3:7), 6:7 (8:10). Having finished his singles campaign, Zhalgasbay will compete tomorrow for a place in the junior doubles quarterfinals.
After all Kazakh representatives were eliminated from the main draws, the juniors are supported by 38-year-old Yaroslava Shvedova. In the first match of the veterans' group tournament, the two-time Grand Slam champion (Wimbledon 2010 and US Open 2010), paired with her regular partner Vania King of the USA, lost to German Sabine Lisicki and Briton Katie O'Brien – 5:7, 3:6.
The Wimbledon Championships 2026 are taking place in London from June 29 to July 12. It is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season and the only one on grass.
The prize fund is £64.2 million. Champions and finalists in singles receive £3.6 million and £1.8 million respectively.
The reigning Wimbledon champions are Italian Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Sinner defeated German Jan-Lennard Struff (74) 7:5, 7:6 (7:4), 6:3 to reach the semifinals. Swiatek was eliminated in the third round.
