UNESCO congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on the National Dombra Day. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

"The Kazakh art of performing kuis on the dombra has been included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2014. This unique musical tradition connects people with their history, identity, and with each other. UNESCO highly values the special attitude towards the dombra in Kazakhstan and welcomes the efforts aimed at preserving and transmitting this invaluable heritage from generation to generation," said Nayef Al-Fayez, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture.

The dombra is regularly played at events held by Kazakh diplomats at UNESCO. Such performances attract the attention of an international audience.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated Kazakhstanis on the National Dombra Day and called this musical instrument an integral part of national identity and the people's heritage. The head of state noted that the dombra preserves the connection between eras and generations, and Kazakh kuis and songs will continue to inspire compatriots. Tokayev also emphasized that it is important for Kazakhstan to introduce the international community to the heritage of the dombra, and thanked dombra players, teachers, and everyone who develops this art in the country and represents it abroad.
