Kazakhstan tennis representatives Yulia Putintseva (79) and Timofey Skatov (163) simultaneously suffered defeats, putting away their rackets at tournaments in Germany and Portugal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Skatov, who had already lost one match in Estoril, as a lucky loser defeated Dutchman Jesper de Jong (98) in the first round of the main draw – 1:6, 6:4, 6:3. However, against top seed Andrey Rublev (14) of Russia, the Petropavlovsk native had no arguments: 1:6, 1:6 in 59 minutes.
Putintseva fought three sets against world No. 208 Elina Avanesyan. The 23-year-old native of Pyatigorsk, who has been playing for Armenia since 2024, took the first set in 49 minutes – 6:3. The Kazakhstani was stronger in the second, which lasted 38 minutes – 6:2.
The decisive set, like the previous two filled with breaks, ended with youth prevailing over experience. After 2 hours and 10 minutes, Putintseva conceded defeat – 3:6, 6:2, 2:6. Break points: 8:9, aces: 2:0, total points won: 77:87.
At the Hamburg tournament, our Zhibek Kulambayeva (136) continues to compete. In a duo with Latvia's Daria Semenistaya (204), the Almaty native defeated the German tandem of Tamara Korpatsch (165)/Noma Noha Akugue (270) – 6:3, 6:3. And advanced to the quarterfinals.
