More than 500 representatives of the television industry chose their favorite series of the 21st century. The top 100 included Game of Thrones, Chernobyl, The Office, House and other cult TV shows. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

How the ranking was compiled

To compile the ranking, The New York Times surveyed more than 500 actors, showrunners, screenwriters, producers and other television industry figures. Each participant could name up to ten series.

Among those who voted were Bryan Cranston, Elisabeth Moss, Adam Scott, Rose Byrne, Colman Domingo and Jason Bateman. Showrunners Damon Lindelof (Lost), Lena Dunham (Girls), Lena Waithe (Dear White People) and Noah Hawley (Fargo) also named their picks.

The winner — Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad was named the best series of the 21st century. The plot centers on high school chemistry teacher Walter White, who, after a terrible diagnosis, decides to start producing drugs to provide for his family. Together with his former student Jesse Pinkman, he gradually descends into the criminal world, and his new life increasingly changes Walter himself.

Breaking Bad was followed by The Wire, Mad Men and Succession.

Only premieres after 2000

Notably, the list includes not only fictional dramas and comedies but also documentary projects and reality shows. Only series and shows whose premiere took place no earlier than January 1, 2000, were considered.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that Apple plans to launch a separate subscription in Kazakhstan.
