The European Union will not lift sanctions on Russia until the armed conflict in Ukraine ends. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. At a meeting in Brussels attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Council President António Costa, she said the EU's sanctions policy against Russia will continue.
Work on the 22nd package
"We are working on the 22nd package of sanctions. One thing can be said clearly: until Russia stops the conflict, we will not lift a single sanction," von der Leyen said.
According to her, the summit in Brussels will also discuss support for Ukraine in the coming winter period.
Financial and military needs
In addition, EU leaders will consider Ukraine's financial, budgetary and military needs for 2026 and 2027.
Earlier, on Saturday, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas said that the largest package of sanctions against Russia since the start of the conflict in Ukraine is planned to be adopted.
