Three Atlanta Dream players will participate in the WNBA All-Star Game. Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard, and Allisha Gray were selected as reserves for the game on July 25 in Chicago. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Angel Reese had previously expressed disappointment that Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray were not named starters. Now all three will play together. This is the fourth time Atlanta has had three All-Stars.
Other reserves include Washington teammates Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, both rookies last season. Toronto's Marina Mabrey will make her first All-Star appearance after tying the WNBA record with 53 points in a game last month.
Additional reserves: Jonquel Jones (New York), Courtney Williams (Minnesota), Jackie Young (Las Vegas), Dominique Malonga (Seattle, debut), Nneka Ogwumike and Kelsey Plum (Los Angeles). Ogwumike ties Diana Taurasi for second-most All-Star appearances with 11, trailing only Sue Bird's 13.
Kelsey Plum has been sidelined with a leg injury. If she cannot play, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will select a replacement.
This year, WNBA legends Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon will serve as honorary general managers and select the two teams.
Chicago, Portland, Connecticut, and Phoenix have no All-Stars.
