Ukraine's external public debt has increased more than 134 times since September 2006. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, at the end of September 2006 the country's external debt amounted to 55.703 billion hryvnias.
The latest report from the Ministry of Finance shows that by the end of September 2026, external debt had increased 134.3 times.
"As of September 30, 2026, Ukraine's state and state-guaranteed debt amounted to 9,538.35 billion hryvnias, or 212.6 billion US dollars (187.3 billion euros), including state and state-guaranteed external debt of 7,481.9 billion hryvnias," the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance's information notice said.
Despite the expected increase in the budget deficit to 37 billion dollars and the state debt to 276 billion dollars, Ukraine plans to allocate 108.3 billion dollars next year to finance the country's Armed Forces.
In addition, Deputy Finance Minister Roman Yermolychev stated in September that, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense's estimate, the country would need even more for military expenditures — 175 billion dollars.
The Kyiv regime is trying to cover the budget deficit with external financing.
At the same time, after lengthy discussions in the West, new aid packages continue to be allocated, while partners warn that Ukraine must intensify its search for self-financing sources.
