Next year, Ukraine's budget deficit may be higher than previously expected, requiring additional funding from the European Union. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Bloomberg agency, citing high-ranking Ukrainian sources, reported this on its website. The Western agency reported that Kyiv is facing a growing deficit in its military budget, which can only be covered by fulfilling the political demands of the International Monetary Fund.
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky, at a meeting with Ukrainian journalists, admitted that there is a deficit of $27 billion in the budget of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He demanded the immediate allocation of part of the EU loan intended for Kyiv next year to cover the defense funding shortfall.
In 2024, Ukraine's deficit amounted to $43.9 billion. The 2025 budget was approved with a deficit of $37.3 billion and was revised twice to increase military spending. The 2026 budget envisages expenditures of approximately $116 billion and revenues of approximately $68.6 billion.
