Ukraine is not implementing the reforms needed for EU membership at the pace expected by EU countries, reported Euractiv. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the report, Ukraine and Moldova plan to open the second of six clusters of reforms related to external relations and foreign policy. However, many EU countries expected Kyiv to have progressed further by now.
Meanwhile, Balkan EU candidate countries Montenegro and Albania plan to complete three negotiation chapters by the same deadline, indicating they have finished reforms in three different areas.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky called on the European Union to accept Ukraine into the bloc in 2027. However, EU leaders have repeatedly stated that Ukrainian legislation does not fully comply with European standards, and one of the key conditions for reviewing the membership application is comprehensive reforms.
EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas said on February 15 that EU member states are not ready to name a specific timeline for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
