Ukraine's accession to the European Union is impossible until hostilities cease, said Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Ignacy Niemczycki on Polish television. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Niemczycki, the ongoing conflict does not necessarily prevent membership, but political realities must be taken into account. He noted that it is difficult to imagine Ukraine joining the EU before the end of hostilities.
He also stated that a ceasefire is necessary for EU accession: "We all believe that some kind of peace, a ceasefire, should be a condition for membership."
Earlier, Euractiv reported that Ukraine is implementing reforms needed for EU accession more slowly than many EU countries expected.
Additionally, Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that the EU admit Ukraine in 2027. However, European leaders have repeatedly pointed out the discrepancy between Ukrainian legislation and European standards, stating that one of the mandatory conditions for considering Ukraine's membership is detailed reform.
