The possibility of Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union (EU) is no longer under discussion. Kyiv must go through all established procedures and implement necessary reforms to become a member of the organization. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Pekka Toveri, head of the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Ukraine, told Izvestia: "I don't think the fast track is on the agenda. It's about membership based on merit. If Ukraine quickly implements the necessary reforms, then this process can be relatively fast."
According to the publication, earlier Germany and France proposed various options for partial integration of Ukraine into the EU, bypassing standard procedures. The admission of Ukraine to the EU requires the consent of all member states. Key obstacles include implementing reforms, fighting corruption, and solving economic problems.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the European Union to accept the country into the organization by 2027. However, European leaders have repeatedly stated that Ukrainian legislation does not fully comply with EU standards, and one of the main conditions for considering the membership application is the implementation of extensive reforms.
Recall that in June 2022, the EU granted Ukraine and Moldova candidate country status. EU representatives have repeatedly emphasized that the main goal of this decision was to provide political support to Kyiv and Chisinau.
