US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that after contacts between American representatives in Moscow and Kyiv, a possibility may arise in the coming weeks to develop a roadmap for resuming trilateral talks on Ukraine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"I don't want to be too optimistic or pessimistic. However, there is an opportunity in the coming weeks to develop a roadmap for resuming negotiations and possibly reach a solution acceptable to both sides," Rubio said in an interview with journalists in Colombia.
According to him, the meetings of US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held over the weekend in Moscow and Kyiv could lay the groundwork for "a path to resuming negotiations in which the US has always been ready to participate as a mediator."
On September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin with US President's special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner. As Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists, during the meeting the Russian leader stressed the need to address the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine.
The next day, US representatives arrived in Kyiv by train from Poland. Ukrainian media reported that the talks took place in several stages and at a certain stage representatives of the UK, France and Germany also joined them.
