On day six of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, July 4, 2026, organizers announced they have commissioned a statue of two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

Sculptor David Williams-Ellis said he understands the risks involved. He has created statues of famous figures before, but Murray's statue requires special attention. Posing on the Media Balcony at Wimbledon, Williams-Ellis told journalists: "It's a big responsibility. Andy is a legend of British tennis, so it's important to capture his likeness accurately."

The design of the statue is not yet known, but it will be placed on the Wimbledon grounds. A statue of three-time Wimbledon champion Fred Perry already stands there. Murray's statue will continue that tradition.

Andy Murray won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016. He also won the US Open in 2012 and is a two-time Olympic champion. The statue will immortalize his achievements.

Williams-Ellis previously created a terracotta warrior sculpture of Murray in 2011 at the Shanghai Masters tournament, where Murray posed next to it. Now he is ready for a larger project.

During the second round of Wimbledon on July 2, 2026, Kate, Princess of Wales, and former tennis player Andy Murray watched the match between Katie Swan and Madison Keys together, showing Murray's continued interest in the tournament.

The completion date for the statue has not been announced. Wimbledon organizers said the project will be finished within the next few years.
