Kazakhstani tennis players ended the last day of the first week of Wimbledon 2026 with two wins and one loss. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the first round of the junior tournament, Zangar Nurlanuly and Damir Zhalgasbay secured hard-fought victories with nearly identical scores. Nurlanuly defeated Slovakia's Leon Sloboda 3:6, 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (10:2) in 2 hours and 28 minutes. Zhalgasbay, spending 2 hours and 13 minutes on court, beat Austria's Tilo Bermann 3:6, 7:6 (7:3), 7:6 (10:8). Notably, the tie-break in the deciding set at Wimbledon is played to ten points, including for juniors.
Two hours and two minutes was the duration of the mixed doubles match in which Anna Danilina and American James Tracy lost to Indonesia's Aldila Sutjiadi and Argentina's Guido Andreozzi 6:7 (6:8), 7:5, 3:6. Danilina, like Zhalgasbay, continues her campaign in doubles.
The only Kazakhstani remaining in the singles draw is Alexander Bublik, who the day before outlasted American Frances Tiafoe in a five-set, four-hour marathon. He will now compete for a quarterfinal spot against another American, Taylor Fritz, who was Elena Rybakina's partner in winning the 2026 Eisenhower Cup.
The Wimbledon Championships are taking place in London from June 29 to July 12. It is the third Grand Slam tournament of the season and the only one on grass.
The prize fund is £64.2 million. Singles champions and finalists will receive £3.6 million and £1.8 million respectively.
The reigning Wimbledon champions are Italy's Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek. Sinner defeated American Jenson Brooksby (81) 6:4, 6:3, 6:4 to reach the fourth round. Swiatek was eliminated in the third round.
