Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo and Latvia's Elena Ostapenko became the first champions of this year's Wimbledon tournament. Finalists in other main draws have also been determined. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In the mixed doubles final, Arévalo and Ostapenko defeated Australians Marc Polmans and Storm Hunter in three sets: 4–6, 7–5, 6–2.
For the 35-year-old Salvadoran, this is his third Grand Slam title, following victories at Roland Garros in 2022 and 2024. The 29-year-old Ostapenko, who prefers to be called Alena, won the same French Open in singles in 2017 and the US Open in doubles in 2024. Last year, the Latvian reached the women's doubles final at Wimbledon. Now she has gone further in mixed doubles.
Meanwhile, all finalists in other main draws have been decided. In men's singles, there were no surprises. The top two seeds, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, will meet in the final. The 24-year-old Italian is defending his title from last year, which he took from Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who is missing this Wimbledon due to injury. The 29-year-old German is eager to win his second consecutive Grand Slam after Roland Garros 2026.
In women's singles, the final turned out to be completely different from what was expected at the start of the tournament. The new Wimbledon champion will be a Czech representative. Neither 29-year-old Karolína Muchová nor 21-year-old Linda Nosková have won a Grand Slam tournament before. One of them will do it for the first time.
The Wimbledon Championships 2026 are taking place in London from June 29 to July 12. It is the third Grand Slam of the season and the only one on grass.
The prize fund is £64.2 million. Champions and finalists in singles will receive £3.6 million and £1.8 million, respectively. Kazakhstani tennis players did not shine at this year's Wimbledon.
