Users of WhatsApp around the world, including from Kazakhstan, have begun to massively complain about sudden account blocks. The messenger puts accounts "under review" without explanation. Meta has already acknowledged the problem. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In recent hours, users from different countries have been posting messages on X, Threads and other platforms that they can no longer use WhatsApp. Instead of the usual interface, the app shows a notification that the account is "under review" and a decision is usually made within 24 hours.
"Hi @Meta @WhatsApp My WhatsApp account got locked is under review. I was engaged in usual work and chats.It’s blocked for 24 hours and will affect my work directly. Please help with solution ASAP. pic.twitter.com/6nzjCOFmCi" — wrote one user.
Similar complaints are also coming from Kazakhstani users. They say their accounts were blocked without warning, although they used the official WhatsApp client and did not violate the service's rules.
Meta confirmed that they are aware of the problem and are already working to fix it.
"We always try to stay ahead of those who abuse our service and block accounts to protect other users. Sometimes we make mistakes. In such cases, we try to restore access to accounts as quickly as possible," a company representative said.
The company stressed that they have already begun restoring access to users affected by the error. At the same time, Meta did not specify which regions were affected the most and what caused the mass review of accounts.
WhatsApp remains the most popular messenger in the world with an audience of more than 3 billion users per month. Therefore, even a relatively small technical failure can affect hundreds of thousands of people at the same time.
