The Volkswagen Tayron L crossover, produced in China, has appeared in the Kazakh OTTS database and may become the brand's second official model in the market. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Currently, Volkswagen's official lineup in Kazakhstan consists of only one car — the flagship Touareg crossover. However, the situation may change in the coming months.

The appearance of the Tayron L in the KazStandard register indicates plans to bring the model to the local market. The applicant is Mercur Autos LLP, the official distributor of the brand as part of Orbis Auto.

The Tayron L is built on the same platform as the new-generation Volkswagen Tiguan. The crossover's length is nearly 4.7 meters, and its wheelbase is about 2.8 meters.

The model for Kazakhstan will be imported from the FAW-Volkswagen plant in Changchun, China. Under the hood of the certified version is a 2-liter turbocharged EA888 engine producing 220 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Buyers will be offered both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The type of transmission is not disclosed in the OTTS, but in China such cars are equipped with a 7-speed DSG robot.

Official prices for Kazakhstan are not yet known. For comparison, in the Chinese market, the front-wheel drive Tayron L starts at 218,000 yuan (about 15.7 million tenge), and the all-wheel drive version starts at 248,000 yuan (about 17.9 million tenge).

Obtaining an OTTS is usually one of the last steps before a car enters the market, so the official debut of the Volkswagen Tayron L could take place before the end of 2026.

Earlier, Kursiv Avto reported that Kazakhstan also plans to sell the Jetta VS7 crossover, a model from a brand created by the FAW and Volkswagen joint venture in China.
