Three people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an alleged axe attack in the Gippsland town of Tyers, Victoria. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.
According to a spokesperson for Victoria Police, the alleged attacker, who is known to the victims, came to an address in Tyers at about 12:30 pm on Saturday. He is believed to have attacked an elderly man and woman, and a third person with an axe, causing serious injuries.
The man, who is in his 50s, fled the address and the victims were able to call emergency services for help.
A specialist air ambulance and road paramedics were dispatched to the scene. A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said a man in his 70s and a man in his 40s were transported to hospital in a critical condition. A woman in her 70s was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The man is believed to have left the property on foot. Victoria Police launched a large-scale search for the man and continued to look for him on Sunday.
The man was last seen wearing a black and mustard coloured jacket and carrying a black backpack. Police warned he may be armed with an axe and handsaw.
Police urged anyone who sees the offender to not approach the man and immediately contact Triple Zero (000).
