At least 12 people were killed in an accident involving a tourist bus in northeastern Hungary, according to Euronews. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Euronews.
Details of the crash
The accident occurred on the night of August 16 on the M3 motorway between the settlements of Mezőkeresztes and Mezőnagymihály. The bus carrying Polish tourists veered off the road and overturned.
According to the Hungarian emergency services, rescuers extracted 35 people from the bus. Several passengers were trapped under the vehicle.
Casualties and injuries
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar said 12 passengers died in the crash, and at least 10 others were seriously injured. A total of 47 people were on the bus.
Driver detained
The driver has been detained. Preliminary reports suggest he fell asleep at the wheel. Polish authorities confirmed the accident and said they are in constant contact with the Hungarian side. Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
