Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar stated that Hungary opposes Ukraine's accelerated accession to the European Union. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

"We do not accept any double standards. We believe there is no need for an accelerated procedure," he said in an interview with ATV television.

Magyar noted that Kyiv's accession to the EU is complicated by the ongoing conflict with Russia. He also added that Ukraine still has a long way to go before Brussels makes a decision on membership.

Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly demanded that the EU admit Ukraine to the union in 2027. Meanwhile, European leaders have repeatedly stated that Ukrainian legislation does not meet European standards and that fundamental reforms are a prerequisite for considering membership.

According to the Financial Times, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos believes that Kyiv's fulfillment of the requirements for EU accession by 2027 is impossible.
