Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán warned that Ukraine's EU accession process could be halted if Kyiv fails to implement the agreement on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Orbán recalled that Budapest and Kyiv, after expert-level negotiations, signed an agreement guaranteeing the basic rights of Hungarians in Zakarpattia. Hungary agreed to start EU accession negotiations with Ukraine, and Ukraine committed to including its provisions in the list of requirements needed to close the first part of the talks.
"If Ukraine does not implement the agreement, Ukraine's EU accession process will automatically stop at the first cluster," Orbán said before the start of the EU foreign ministers' meeting in Luxembourg.
Earlier in June, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar stated that Budapest would not block the start of EU accession talks with Ukraine after signing the agreement with Kyiv on restoring the rights of Hungarians in Zakarpattia. However, he noted that Hungary remains opposed to the accelerated accession of any country, including Ukraine.
