Hungary has agreed to start EU accession negotiations with Ukraine on June 15, but this is only the first step of a multi-year process, said Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to Magyar, the Ukrainian government has formally committed to implementing the historic agreement on the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia. Therefore, Hungary agreed to open the first block of negotiations between the EU and Ukraine on Monday, June 15.

At the same time, Magyar noted that opening the first negotiation block is only the first step of a long process, citing Montenegro as an example, which started accession talks in 2012 but has not yet completed them.
