The death toll from the earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 1,719, CNN reports. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
At least 22,619 people are considered affected, of whom 5,034 were injured. Earlier, the U.S. Geological Survey did not rule out that the total number of earthquake victims could reach 10,000 people.
According to National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez, 855 buildings were damaged in the country, 189 of which were completely destroyed.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that two powerful tremors with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 occurred in Venezuela. A state of emergency was declared in the country.
It was also reported that support for Venezuela immediately after the earthquake was expressed by the United States, Panama, Qatar, Cuba, Nicaragua, Turkey, Jordan, Colombia, Barbados, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico. They sent humanitarian aid and specialized search and rescue teams to help local services search for people under the rubble.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent a telegram expressing condolences to Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez.
