CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov has offered his condolences to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev over the deaths of Kazakh service members. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"We express our sincere condolences over the deaths of Kazakh service members while performing their official duties. We mourn together with the families and loved ones of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to those injured in the tragic incident," the Secretary General said.
On September 24, during exercises in the Mangystau Region, 17 service members drowned in the sea. Three of them were rescued, and 14 service members died.
The Prosecutor General's Office identified suspects in connection with the deaths of the service members. The investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
It was previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin offered condolences to Tokayev over the tragic incident in the Caspian Sea.
