A decision on Armenia's prospects of participation in the CSTO should be made within a reasonable timeframe. This was stated by the organization's Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov, as reported by RIA Novosti. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"We believe that a decision regarding Armenia's prospects of participation in the CSTO should be made in an optimal timeframe," Masadykov told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Russia's Permanent Representative to the CSTO Viktor Vasilyev told RIA Novosti that a consensus would be required to make a decision on depriving Armenia of the right to vote in CSTO bodies.
According to him, the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council will be held on November 11 in Moscow, and heads of state may discuss this issue.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on June 10 that due to Armenia's non-payment of membership fees to the CSTO, the organization would consider applying a Charter article regulating actions against member states that do not fulfill their obligations.
Armenia suspended its participation in the CSTO in 2024. As explained by the republic's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, in 2021-2022 the allies did not fulfill their obligations under the Collective Security Treaty regarding Armenia. In this regard, Yerevan "froze" its participation in the CSTO.
The organization includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
