A rural sports day in the Zhanarqa district of the Ulytau region ended in a mass brawl involving spectators, athletes, referees and coaches. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The conflict occurred after the final wrestling competitions. According to preliminary data, one fan believed that the referees had unfairly denied victory to his favorite and attacked the referee. After that, other participants and spectators of the event joined the scuffle.
Despite the mass nature of the brawl, according to police, there were no casualties. Law enforcement officers identified and detained four suspected instigators of the conflict.
"A criminal case has been opened under the article 'Hooliganism' regarding the incident that took place in the Zhanarqa district during the sports day. All participants in the conflict have been identified and detained," said Almas Salamatov, deputy head of the police department of the Ulytau region.
The investigation of the criminal case continues.
