A fire occurred at mine No. 45 of the South Zhezkazgan deposit, located 35 km from the city of Satpayev in the Ulytau region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The fire started on 22 September at 13:05, and the surface burning was contained within 1 hour. It was later established that the fire had spread to wooden structures in the underground part of the mine shaft.
According to preliminary data, 233 metres of wooden lining burned. The mine has not been in operation since 2025, the Emergency Situations Department said.
For safety reasons, the operation of mine No. 65 was suspended, and 152 people were fully brought to the surface. Currently, reconnaissance work to assess the situation in the mine is being carried out by 25 people consisting of JASO service employees and engineering-technical personnel.
The fire has been completely extinguished.
