The National Bank of Kazakhstan imposed 38 fines totaling 493.7 million tenge on banks in 2025. The violations were identified as part of monitoring compliance with currency legislation, according to the regulator's annual report. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

During the year, the National Bank conducted 20 inspections of authorized banks. Nine were planned, and 11 were unscheduled. Based on the inspections and other forms of control, the regulator also issued 62 warnings to banks and sent eight requirements to eliminate identified violations.

The average fine amount, if the total sum is divided by the number of fines, was approximately 13 million tenge. However, the size of each individual fine is not disclosed in the report.

The annual report also states that the regulator continued its work to identify suspicious currency transactions. In particular, procedures for financial monitoring of transactions with signs of evasion of currency legislation requirements were clarified.

Information about identified transactions was sent to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Finance, the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, and the Financial Monitoring Agency.

Additionally, in 2025, within the framework of registration of currency contracts for capital movements and accounts in foreign banks, 2,500 registration numbers were assigned.

Separately, the National Bank reported two fines imposed on legal entities. Their total amount was 0.9 million tenge. The basis was the untimely submission of primary statistical data.

Recall that earlier this year, it was reported that one of the Kazakh banks helped "funnel" more than 7 trillion tenge "from a neighboring country" to other states. In April, the situation was commented on by the chairperson of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM), Madina Abylkassymova. According to her, the agency has already checked some banks and identified similar violations.

Earlier, it became known that the National Bank would send artificial intelligence to the Darknet to hunt for fraudsters.
