The head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, has declined an offer from US President Donald Trump to serve as White House press secretary. This was reported on November 8 by CNN, citing a source. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The TV channel's interlocutor suggested that Trump may have been joking when he proposed the position to White. However, according to TMZ, the UFC head still plans to discuss the offer with the American president on Monday.
Earlier, Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social that he would like to see White as White House press secretary. He also proposed bringing in several UFC fighters to work, including Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison.
«I am pleased to announce that the great Dana White, a fierce fighter and warrior, has been offered the position of press secretary of the United States. I asked him to bring several UFC fighters with him as assistants, despite the fact that some of them are not from our country: Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison. We need these people to defend against the crazy left. Dana will be a press secretary like no other. Dana, please accept this job,» Trump wrote.
White himself posted a screenshot of the president's message on social media, as well as a photograph of himself standing behind a podium in the White House briefing room. He accompanied the post with the phrase «Moving on to the next chapter,» without explaining what he meant.
Trump's offer came amid personnel changes in his administration following serious losses for the Republican Party in the midterm elections.
On Friday, the US president announced that Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller would head the structure instead of Susie Wiles.
The White House press secretary position has remained vacant for several months. In August, Karoline Leavitt resigned, explaining her decision by a desire to spend more time with her family. Her successor, Katie Zacharia, worked in the post for only five days.
White openly supports the Republican Party. He spoke at its conventions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Earlier, «Kursiv» wrote that rapper Nicki Minaj could become White House press secretary.
