As of early 2026, Kazakhstan's gas supply level exceeded 64%. Thus, over the past ten years, the gasification rate has increased by 21 percentage points, reported Ranking.kz. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
On June 11 of this year, parliament adopted a law aimed at improving state regulation in the gas and gas supply sector. In general, Kazakhstan's gasification is being implemented within the framework of the General Gas Supply Scheme until 2035.
In 2025, 84 gasification projects were implemented, and more than 354,000 residents of 94 settlements gained access to natural gas. During the year, 2,000 kilometers of gas distribution networks were built. As a result, over 13 million out of 20.5 million people are provided with natural gas, the portal wrote.
In 2026, as a result of the implementation of gas transport infrastructure development projects, another 36,000 residents will be connected to natural gas. This year, 27.3 billion tenge was allocated from the republican budget for this direction.
Development of main gas infrastructure
Priority is given to the development of main gas infrastructure. For example, to provide natural gas to large industrial projects in Kostanay region, a project is being implemented to build the KS-14 compressor station and the "KS-14 – Kostanay" main gas pipeline.
Also, the first stage of construction of the second line of the "Beineu – Bozoi – Shymkent" main gas pipeline continues with the participation of Qatari investors. By the end of this year, it is planned to complete the linear part of the gas pipeline with a length of 1,500 kilometers, which will allow transporting up to 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In the second stage of the project, scheduled for 2027–2029, compressor stations will be built, and the capacity of the gas pipeline will increase to 15 billion cubic meters per year.
Another strategic project is the construction of the second line of the "Almaty – Taldykorgan" main gas pipeline, which will provide additional gas volumes to Almaty and Zhetysu regions.
Regional situation
Despite the increase in the gasification level across the country, significant differences remain between regions.
**Regions with high gasification levels:** - Atyrau region – 99.8%; - Mangystau region – 99.8%; - West Kazakhstan region – 99.7%; - Almaty city – 99.6%; - Shymkent city – 97.8%; - Aktobe region – 94.2%; - Zhambyl region – 92%.
**Regions with low gasification levels:** - Karaganda region – 5.8%; - Ulytau region – 4.3%; - East Kazakhstan region – 3.3%.
As of early 2026, natural gas is not fully supplied to North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, and Abay regions.
Turkistan region
In 2025, 20.7 billion tenge was allocated for the construction of 87 gas infrastructure facilities in the region. Of these, 45 facilities were put into operation, and work on 42 facilities was postponed to 2026 and continues.
In 2025, 102,000 residents of 41 settlements were provided with natural gas. As a result, 606 out of 801 settlements in Turkistan region were connected to natural gas. The region's gasification level reached 88%.
In 2026, 13.7 billion tenge was allocated for the construction of 74 facilities. Of these, 2.4 billion tenge comes from the republican budget, and 11.3 billion tenge from the regional budget. By the end of the year, it is planned to put 33 facilities into operation. This will provide natural gas to more than 35,000 residents of 34 settlements. As a result, the region's gasification level will reach 89.5%.
Kostanay region
Within the framework of the regional scheme developed on the basis of the General Gas Supply Scheme until 2030, 22 of the 56 planned projects have been implemented in the region. After the completion of the remaining 34 projects, the number of gasified settlements will increase to 116. This will account for 23.1% of all settlements. And the level of gasification of the population will reach 67.7%, or 556,685 people.
To increase the level of gasification, an application was submitted for financing 8 projects for 2026–2028 with a total cost of 6.1 billion tenge. As a result of their implementation, the level of gasification of the population will increase from 60.4% to 61.1%.
In addition, the region is experiencing an increase in natural gas consumption due to the development of housing construction and industry. In this regard, on the instructions of the head of state, a project is being implemented to build a main gas pipeline from the KS-14 compressor station in Aktobe region to Kostanay. The implementation of the project will not only increase the gasification of the region, but also open new industries, implement investment projects and create additional jobs.
