Astana police detained a 45-year-old man who was on the international wanted list in Shymkent. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the investigation, the suspect, together with a group of people, gained the trust of citizens and raised funds for the construction of a multi-storey residential complex in Astana. However, the construction work was carried out without the necessary permits and without a positive conclusion from the state expert review.
"Within the framework of the criminal case, it was established that 292 depositors were affected. The total damage caused exceeds 4 billion tenge," the statement said.
During operational-search activities, it was found that the suspect had been hiding in Shymkent for a long time. To cover his tracks, he frequently changed rented apartments.
Currently, the man has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
