A unique service is spreading on social media: users are offered to immortalize their beloved pets in diamonds, the hardest material on Earth. Kursiv LifeStyle found out how much it will cost. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The company synthesizes diamonds from fur, feathers, or ashes of pets. Dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, or hamsters can be immortalized this way. The precious stone can also be made from human hair.
How are fur and diamonds related? Fur and hair, the company explains, contain about 49% carbon in the keratin structure. Diamond is pure carbon. It is freed from all impurities under conditions similar to the Earth's interior.
"Next, from this carbon we create a graphite disc, which is placed in an HPHT press, where at a temperature of about 1400°C and a pressure of 50-60 thousand atmospheres, the carbon crystallizes into a diamond," the authors of the original idea explained in comments.
Then the stone can be cut, and you can make, for example, a ring with a diamond from your beloved dog's fur. By the way, for a diamond like the one in the video above, only 5 grams of fur are needed. This is what the precious stone looks like immediately after synthesis. Then it can be dyed in different colors or left transparent.
Immortalizing a pet or a person in this way costs from about 900,000 tenge for a 0.5-carat (0.1 g) diamond. The company's office is located in the Russian capital, and the laboratory is in Belarus. To collect fur, the client is sent tools (tweezers, spoon), a bag, a container for hair, and instructions by mail. The set also includes "mock-ups" of diamonds made of zirconium.
