A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck southeastern Turkey on the morning of July 18. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties or destruction. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD), the earthquake occurred at 06:20 local time in the Battalgazi district of Malatya province.
Residents of neighboring provinces Elazığ, Adıyaman, Tunceli, and Şanlıurfa also felt the tremors.
"After the magnitude 5.0 earthquake in the Battalgazi district of Malatya province, no information about any adverse effects has been received. Our specialists continue to work on site," AFAD said in a statement.
Turkey is located in a zone of high seismic activity. The country's territory is crossed by several major geological faults, which cause frequent earthquakes, including destructive ones.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that after the 2023 earthquake in Turkey, which killed tens of thousands of people, Kazakhstani residents have become increasingly reluctant to purchase housing in that country.
