A source in the Turkish government told RIA Novosti that during the talks, the Turkish side will state Ankara's readiness to facilitate the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and act as a mediator between the parties.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Vladimir Putin will meet with Recep Tayyip Erdogan on September 1 in Bishkek. The leaders will discuss the situation in Ukraine and the Black Sea.
The source said in an interview with the agency: "During the negotiations between Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, which will take place on Tuesday in Bishkek, the Turkish side will declare Ankara's readiness to facilitate the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and act as a mediator between the parties."
Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of June at a meeting with government members said that Russia is ready to conduct peaceful negotiations with Ukraine on the basis of agreements reached in Istanbul in 2022.
In 2025, Russia and Ukraine held three rounds of direct negotiations in Istanbul. As a result, the parties exchanged prisoners. They also exchanged draft memorandums on settling the conflict.
